OVERVIEW
The Canoe Leader Course is designed to help participants develop the skills to instruct canoeing techniques and lead groups on the water. Completion of this course qualifies you as an Activity Leader in the Norwegian Paddle Federation (NPF). This allows you to run NPF Introductory and Basic courses, as well as lead trips on sheltered waters and rivers (Class I-II).
This course focuses on leadership and instruction rather than on personal technical skill development. Participants must already be capable of performing basic canoeing techniques and understanding the technical skill requirements for canoeing.
For canoe leadership, we will concentrate on:
Pre-activity planning and organization
Dynamic processes during canoeing specifically
End-of-Activity Leadership
Safety protocols and first aid
Outdoor Ethics and Responsibility
Instructional topics covered in the course include:
Teaching methods, situational learning and error correction
Training principles
Canoeing games and activities
Overview of the NPF and its education system
PRICES
This course costs 3100 NOK. We encourage you to paddle your own canoe, but boats are available if needed. In the price, meals are not included. If necessary, we can provide other equipment for rent.
GRADE
To take the course, you must have completed the NPF Basic Course, Technique Course, and Safety Course or equivalent courses from other organizations.
