The weather in Oslo

In April and May the average temperature is 5 to 11°C. Light frost is still possible with minimum temperatures of -2°C. On fine days, the temperatures rise to 25°C. The last snow melts around Oslo by the end of March, but in the higher areas it may be possible to trek on skis until the end of April. Nature is back in bloom in May, a month later than in the United Kingdom.

In June, July and August, the average temperature is 15 to16°C. Maximum temperatures are around 30°C. Summer weather around Oslo is better than you might think, with pleasantly warm weather and more hours of sunshine than in London or Paris. Due to its protected location, the wind strength around Oslo is very moderate and often it is windless. The days are long and clear. At the end of June it is only dark for two hours.

September and October reach average temperatures of 6 to11°C with a minimum and maximum of 0°C and 23°C. The weather is changeable, but with good clothing that is no problem. When canoeing and kayaking you paddle through beautifully autumn colours. Natural ice begins to form in the higher areas. The most avid skaters start their first tours.

From November to March, the normal temperatures are -4 to 1°C. On the coldest days, the temperature drops to -15°C. In November and December there is up to two hours less sunlight than in the United Kingdom. Around Oslo there is ice and snow every year. Ice skating is usually possible from November. Snow usually comes in December. In January parts of the fjord are frozen and you can break the ice with your kayak. In normal winters, there are good options for cross-country and downhill skiing until mid-March. As soon as the snow comes, the area turns into winter wonderland.
