OVERVIEW

The ISKGA Sea Kayak Safety & Rescue module is the foundation for the development of water safety, rescue and extractions. During the module you will learn how to develop skills in the following areas.

  • Individual rescue risk

  • Self rescues

  • Assisted rescues

  • Towing

  • Throw-tow rescues

The Sea Kayak Safety & Rescue module is designed to introduce, develop and enhance individual rescue techniques and extractions utilising the various risk assessments, protocols and practical techniques to facilitate a safe and effective rescue. Once these have become effective in a flat to moderate water environment, the environmental factors can be enhanced to accommodate greater swell, breaking water and flow. The emphasis is on developing very strong techniques before applying more advanced environmental factors. You will learn the difference between proactive and inactive rescue, we will practice various types of rescues, you will gain practical experience in the use of towing and throw lines and understand why strict rescue protocols prevent situations from worsening.. You will also be shown how to operate within your L.A.R. (Limited Access Rescue) during solo paddles and develop sea survival strategies, along with a variety of self-rescue techniques.

The Sea Kayak Safety & Rescue module is also a recommended before progressing towards the incident management program. ISKGA - Setting the Standards for Sea Kayaking. Courses in Norway: Kajakk Nord – KURS OG TURER I KAJAKK
